Doctors Appointment

We just got back from the pediatricians office. The girls had their monthly check up. Alana is now 12 pounds 13 ounces. She is in the 5th percentile on the chart for a 6 month old (which she will be tomorrow if you can believe that) and if we adjust her age to 3 months she is in the 90th percentile. The doctor is amazed at how well she is doing. She does not want her to gain too much too fast so we are going to take the cereal out of her bottles to lessen the calorie intake. Hopefully she will not start to spit up alot. If she does we are to add one tsp. instead of three tsp. to the bottle. If that does not work then the doctor said she would rather put her on a reflux med. instead of adding more calories. She does not want her to have problems with weight later in life. She is still eating baby food as well. She is to have fruit and cereal in the morning and a veggie and cereal in the evening. Olivia on the other hand is not gaining well at all. She is 9 pounds 11 ounces which is only up 3 ounces in the last 11 days. That is less of a weight gain than the last time. The doctor is going to try and get her into the GI specialist before the 13th because she is not gaining properly. I am also to mix her bottles with less water to increase her calorie intake. We are to go back on Friday for a weight check to see how it is working. The doctor reassured me that she looks good. She is not limp, she has a little double chin, and you can't see her ribs. She is just concerned because Olivia has always been at the bottom of the range for weight gain but now it has dropped even lower. If you take her as a six month old she is not on the chart yet but if you age adjust her to 3 months she is in the 25th percentile. She told me she understands my concern but to try and not worry too much. She said when you lay both girls next to each other you can really see the difference but to look at them one at a time Olivia looks great too. I have been so worried that my hair is starting to fall out in large quantities. If she does not start to gain weight soon we will all find out what I look like bald. I will let everyone know what her weight is on Friday as well as if we get a sooner appointment with the GI specialist. Lots of love to all!

Wendy,

Olivia looks healthy and is very strong! I am praying for her to grow.

I pray that God will give you the strength you need to get through this difficult time.

I spoke to Karen Montgomery, whose son Gavin is still battling cancer. She started swimming again last week and she is praying a lap for Olivia and a lap for Alana every time she swims. I just wanted you to know that many, many people are still praying regularly for the girls! She hopes to come to the Open House, too! Please keep praying for her son. This month is critical for his future.
